Reaper Cup Final Recap and Banquet Information

Martin OBrien, Sunday October 9, 2022

And with the final out now in the books, the 2022 RHMRBL season is complete!

Welcome your new champions, The Athletics! After earning the first seed during the regular season, they battled hard to earn a 3-1 series win over the upstart Braves!

On the back of some incredible performances on both offence and on the mound, Captain PSo and his squad will forever be in the history books as this year's Reaper Cup Champions! Let's look back at how they earned their title!

Game one would feature a matchup between the Braves ace, James Allison, and the unflappable Jordan Levy for the Athletics. While Levy would give his team 8 innings of strong pitching, and the offence would be led by a Tony Minikakis home run, the Braves would squeak out a victory on the back of their pitching staff's strong outing.

Needing to make up ground in the series, the Athletics turned to Minikakis on the bump to deliver them a win, and he would deliver by giving up only two runs across 7 innings. Behind his dominant outing was an Athletics offence that jumped all over sophomore, Chris MacLean. MacLean would give up 23 hits and 18 runs on his way to taking the unfortunate loss in game two.

As the Braves reeled from their beating the previous night, they wouldn't be able to recover enough to reclaim ground in the series. Game three followed much the same as game two. The Athletics, looking to take control of the series, tabbed playoff legend, Alan Akselrod, to pitch. James Allison would return to the mound in game three to try and be the stopper for the Braves. While both pitched valiantly, it would be Akselrod who came out on top, giving up only 3 runs on his way to an easy victory. Thanks to a standout performance from Akselrod and captain Paul So at the plate, the Athletics would finish game three only one win away from history!

The calendar turned over to October, and with it came the fourth game in the Reaper Cup Finals. Darrin Pruss would attempt to salvage the Braves' season while squaring off against Game two standout, Tony Minikakis. While both pitchers would bend, it was the Braves who allowed the floodgates to open as Paul Della Penna, Chris Bascom, and Jordan Webb for the Athletics would put on a hitting clinic on the way to their team scoring 17 runs. Despite some solid offensive performances from Jacob Klotz, Peter Amaral, and Jimmy Anderson, the Braves just could not keep up with the onslaught they faced. With one last out, the Athletics were crowned Reaper Cup Champions! Congratulations!
