CCX9 - Quarter Final - Andrew vs. Kristen

     After a long day of competition at the Cherry residence, the first quarter-final match had to be suspended and continued on another day.  The first 2 games between Andrew and Kristen had gone to Andrew but he noticed Kristen wasn't throwing her darts right and granted a cease of play that night and to continue another time.

     Once both competitors set the day of the match, Andrew made his way back to Barrie to continue his quarter-final series with Kristen.  With Daryl marking score and Andrew up 2-0 the best of 13 series finally got back on its way.  Playing crib next Kristen was able to come away with victory leaving Andrew in 200's and cutting the series lead in half to 2-1.  Tic-Tac-Toe was next and after a lengthy struggle in what can be a surprisingly tough game Kristen tied the match 2-2 with a triple 16 to take the game.  Game 5 saw Andrew throw his best game of the day with a convincing victory of 23-18.  Going back to _01 Kristen had a couple of chances to re-tie the match but Andrew found the double 4 to take a 4-2 series lead.   Game six was Cricket and Andrew got off to fast start with 5 20's to start the match to set the tone and despite a valiant effort from Kristen she just couldn't recover and Andrew went up 5-2 in the series. 
    
     Knowing that the games were getting short Kristen played her best game of the night and romped Andrew in Crib leaving him way behind in the 400's.  The series was a little closer but Andrew was still up 5-3.  Tic-Tac-Toe was next and Andrew used the single double approach to manage a close a victory in a tight game and take a commanding 6 games to 3 series lead.  Baseball was next and maybe Andrew was thinking about it a semi-final birth a little too much because he played very poorly and was easily beat 16-12 to make the match 6-4. 

     Andrew being the higher ranked player (7th in the Regular season compaired to Kristen who was 11th in the regular season) had won the right to choose what the final three games  of the series. Andrew choose he most successful game of the series and picked Cricket.  Despite Andrew’s confidence in the choice of game Kristen started off well taking an early 20-0 lead.  As they went back and forth Andrew found a triple 17 and the triple 16 on back to back trips to take the lead 33-20.  Needing two 15's and two bull's-eyes to finish Kristen off,  Andrew struggled a bit hitting only one 15 in two trips but decided to go back to the open 16's in his next trip to take an 81-20 lead.  Kristen scored one 15 on her next trip to cut the lead to 81-35 but Andrew stepped up and closed the 15's leaving him 2 bulls away from moving on.  Kristen could only find one green in her next three trips before Andrew finished her off with one green bull to take to take the game 81-35 and the match 7-4.

     Congratulations to Kristen for playing a great match, it’s too bad her arm injury put her in that 2-0 hole.  She fought back very well in the mini-playoffs just to make it to this quarter-final match and was a couple of lucky trips away from possibly taking the match and adanving to the semi-finals.
