CCX9 - Day 1 (May 9th) - A CLOON CUP FIRST

    For the first time in Cloon Cup history regular season games were played at a venue other than the Lance basement.  The venue was the Cherry residence in Barrie and the competitors were Andrew Lance, Michael Lance, Daryl Cherry, Kristen Cherry, Marco DeSousa, Pattie DeSario, and making his Cloon Cup debut Adam Cherry.

    The games played in the opening round were halfers and baseball (both game have a set amount of trips).  The first match-ups were randomly selected and the darts began to fly.  Andrew and Adam went first and the battle began.

    After the 1st round of games had been completed we saw four 1-1 draws and three 2-0 sweeps.
Every player won at least one game except for Marco (more on that later)   Round 2 of the regular season saw a 3 game set with _01 being introduced.  This round saw three 3-0 sweeps and four 2-1 matches.  Marco has earned the dubious distinction of going 0-10 in the regular season and being the first player in league history to not win a regular season game.

    Now that the regular season had been concluded the play-off round was ready.  Michael by virtue of his 1st place finish (9-1 record 97 total points) was put right through to the cloon cup quarter final, needing just one series victory to be a final four competitor.  Andrew and Adam faced off in the 2nd vs 3rd match to get the 2nd quarter final position.  After splitting the first 2 games Andrew came away with the victory to advance while Adam would get a second chance later on in the day.
  
    This takes us to the first of our 1 game ladder style double eliminations.  Kristen took down Marco to keep Marco winless.  The second match saw a grudge match between spouses with Kristen defeating Daryl to move on.  This set up the first best of 3 elimination match between Marco and Daryl.  Surely Marco couldn't go 0 for the tournament or would Daryl be the 1st one eliminated (in his own house no less).  With the perseverance of a former finalist Marco was able to come through with a 2-0 series victory to send Daryl to the grill (literally because he went to go BBQ dinner). Kristen in her continuing march to the top defeated Pattie.  This set up the next elimination match between Pattie and Marco.  Despite the confidence of eliminating Daryl, Pattie proved to be too much for Marco and sent him packing with a 2-0 series victory.  The tourney was down to five, Adam vs. Kristen was the next match-up with the winner moving on to play to Andrew in the quarter finals and the loser getting one more shot to move on against Pattie.  In a back and forth match Kristen kept on with her winning ways taking down Adam in a great 3-2 match.  This now sets up the final mini-playoff elimination series between Adam and Pattie.  Adam took the first game but had no answer for Pattie, after that first game Pattie won the next 3 and moved on to play Michael in what will be her first official playoff series. Congratulations go out to Adam for playing so well in his first Cloon Cup tournament.  Look out for him if he chooses to play in future tourneys

     I would like to thank Daryl and Kristen for hosting the event.  Despite some time delay snags the day was fun and successful.  I hope Daryl and Kristen enjoyed having us there and we look forward to more games at their place.
