CLOON CUP X9
The Cloon Cup will once again overhaul the tournament format.  The changes that will occur will be significant but very beneficial.  The biggest change is the fact that the tournament will be split into two halves.   Five to seven players on two separate days will compete for a place in the final four.   Each half will play its own tournament bracket to determine two Semi-finalists.  After the completion of both brackets the four semi-finalists will be determined and the ‘Final-Four’ playoff will be set.  The nineteenth Cloon Cup champion will be crowned on a third and final day.

On May 9th the first half of the Cloon Cup X9 tournament will commence.   The competitors will hit the road and play the games in Barrie, Ontario.  This will mark the second time games will be played away from the friendly confines of the Silverthorn Ave residence.  On May 23rd the second half will get on its way with 5 or 6 players competing to make their way to the Final Four.

Saturday, May 9th, 2009 – Barrie, Ontario (Daryl & Kristen’s Place)

Seven competitors will battle it out for two spots in the semi finals and be a part of the ‘Final Four’.   Who will it be, will it be the three time (CC5, CC9, CCX8) and defending champion Andrew Lance, the eight time champion (CC, CC3, CC4, CC6,CC7, CCX2, CCX3, & CCX7) Michael Lance or the two time champion (CC8 & CCX4) Daryl Cherry?   Although those players hold 13 of the 18 championships there are five other competitors who are not going to roll over and let the former champions advance.   Marco Desousa has made two championship finals and is as hungry as ever to get to the mountain top and claim his first championship.  Kristen Cherry has also been to the finals and is looking to get back to the big dance.  The sophomore Pattie DeSario and rookie Adam Cherry will do their best upset the old guard and make their way to the ‘Final Four’.

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 – Toronto, Ontario (Mama & Papa Lance’s Place)

Anthony Lance will make his return to the tournament and the three time champion (CC2, CCX, & CCX1) will be once again be one of the favourites to advance.  Hot on his heels will be the two time champion (CCX5 & CCX6) Chris Moncayo looking to re-capture the champions trophy.  The remaining players will try and show that they can find their way not only through to the ‘final four’ but claim their first championship.   Iain Gibson last season’s championship finalist will try to improve on last season success.  Matthew Larocque who struggled in CCX8 is looking to get back to the form he showed in his Silver Cup, All-Star Point, & Prodigy Award winning CCX6 season.  Finally two players looking to gain their first hint of success are Cheo Leach and Justin Largey.
